Higgins Project
Project Overview
Higgins is a media server written in Python. Higgins is designed to be run on a file server or NAS (though this is certainly not a requirement), and is configurable through a web interface. Higgins supports plugins to extend functionality, allowing new protocols to be supported.
Currently Higgins has basic DAAP (iTunes) and UPnP AV MediaServer? support. For more information on current capabilities, see the Current Status page. For information on planned features, see the Roadmap page.
Installation and configuration instructions are in the User Documentation section.
Higgins is open-source software. For instructions on how to get the source code and start contributing, see the Developer Documentation section.
Higgins is mostly licensed under the GNU LGPL version 2.1, with a few portions licensed under the BSD license.
Why the name 'Higgins'?
Fluendo has a media renderer application similar to Apple's Front Row called Elisa. My original goal was to create a media server that would interoperate seamlessly with Elisa, so I named it Higgins in reference to the characters Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle in the play My Fair Lady :) However fluendo decided to rename their product to Moovida, so my name isn't very clever anymore.
